Introduce

Microsoft DOS (Disk Operating System) is a command-line-based operating system introduced by Microsoft in 1981 for IBM PC-compatible computers. As the dominant personal computer operating system of the 1980s and early 1990s, MS-DOS provided users with a text-based interface to manage files, execute programs, and control hardware using typed commands. It featured essential utilities like DIR, COPY, and FORMAT, supported batch files for automating tasks, and served as the foundation for early versions of Microsoft Windows before being gradually phased out after Windows 95. Although no longer widely used, MS-DOS remains historically significant as the platform that launched Microsoft's dominance in the PC industry and is still emulated by enthusiasts for running classic games and legacy software.
